Wow! And such a wise take! “But as I moved through the museum, I stopped wanting the place to be something it wasn’t—i.e., some kind of academic treatise on Dior’s work—and started accepting it for what it was: a jaw-dropping, immersive dive into the rarefied world of haute couture, a work of art in and of itself, and a true feast for the senses.”
The Dior dresses look edible! IDEA for your final project: CREATE an "Homage a Dior Pain Perdu" recipe. The flavors in the dish would suggest the colors in one of the dresses in the exhibit. If there is black in the dress, such as a belt, you could make part of it out of the edible charcoal ingredient you have been using to make baguettes, sprinkled with white or black sesame seeds! The flow of the dress would be suggested by the spread of the custard!
Maddie, for another pain perdu inspiration, take a short train ride to Monet's house and garden in Giverny. If the flowers are just starting to blossom there now, that will surely provide edible inspiration, too.
Great! Take the train! I might not be able to be your muse, but I can do a taste test in the US as you prepare to open up your shop! Random question: Does your aunt have any grandchildren and if so, what are their ages? She should read them Linnea in Monet's Garden and then take lots of pix while there. Excited for you!
You're my muse, even from Chicago. And she does have little grandkids (a baby and a toddler), but I'll be letting her know about the fabulous Linnea book! Knowing her, she might even have it already :)
See if she can buy an English Language version from home, and you can buy a French Language one for the train ride. Visit the Hotel Esmerlda in Paris by Notre Dame, too. That is where Linnea stayed before her journey!
I’m quite nervous about nailing the recipe…but having so much fun taste-testing my way through the city 😅 Thanks for the well-wishes. I’m finally on the mend! 🙌

…and I bet I’ll find many more places to apply this lesson before my time here is through!
I bet you will, too!
Definitely helpful when it comes to cultural differences abroad! 😜
An exhibit for you and Nancy when you return from Paris?

This looks riveting! 🤩
This is so much fun, Maddie. Thanks for taking us along. xo
It's truly my pleasure! ❤️

Carol, I am *completely* obsessed with this idea. You're a genius! I think I need to whisk you away to Paris so you can be my muse...
My aunt is visiting soon and we plan to visit Giverny together 🥰 I'll report back!

Wonderful idea! I was near the hotel this morning—next time I'll stop in.
Hope you're feeling better!

Thank you, Chrystal! Sending a big virtual hug your way 🥰
Glad to hear you’re on the mend! I’m sure some indulgent French treats are just the ticket to all that ails you. 🤒
Who needs Dayquil when you have caramelized brioche?!
Ex-actly.
I second what Jolene commented!!
Can't wait to see your creative version of Pain Perdu. How exciting and fun!!! (especially the taste research 😍)
